If you’d like to use the Savage Worlds game system for your own materials, there are currently four ways to do so:
- the unapproved Fan license,
- the Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild on OneBookShelf.com (including DriveThruRPG.com and other platforms),
- the Media Network Content license for creators like podcasters and streamers,
- and the official license for our Aces (see a full list of current Aces here)
See more information on each licensing method by expanding the sections below.
Please note that all settings, including Deadlands, Flash Gordon™, The Goon™, Fear Agent™, Rippers Resurrected, and Rifts® for Savage Worlds, are excluded from the Fan License.
Fan License
If you’d like to create fan materials for free, you may use the “Savage Worlds Fan” logo. There is no cost, and no submission or approval is required. By doing so, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
- Pinnacle Entertainment Group grants the licensee a non-exclusive, non-assignable license to reference the Savage Worlds Rule System in a game, adventure, supplement, sourcebook, or other product.
- The licensee must use the “Savage Worlds Fan” logo, unaltered in size or dimension, on the front of the product or other primary display location (such as packaging, manuals, splash pages, or cover screens). A high-resolution PNG of the logo is available at: https://peginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/SW_LOGO_FP_2018.png .
- The licensee must place the following notice in a legible and conspicuous location:
“This game references the Savage Worlds game system, available from Pinnacle Entertainment Group at www.peginc.com. Savage Worlds and all associated logos and trademarks are copyrights of Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Used with permission. Pinnacle makes no representation or warranty as to the quality, viability, or suitability for purpose of this product.”
- The licensee indemnifies Pinnacle Entertainment Group, other licensees of the property, and their officers, employees, agents, licensees, and assigns against all loss, damage, injury, and expense, including reasonable attorney’s fees, arising from any breach of this agreement.
- The licensee may not reproduce material from the Savage Worlds rulebook or any other copyrighted work without express written consent from Pinnacle Entertainment Group or the relevant copyright holder.
- Pinnacle Entertainment Group retains all intellectual property rights to Savage Worlds, including copyrights, trademarks, publishing, entertainment, licensing, and merchandising rights.
- This license does not allow derivative works based on other Pinnacle products or settings (such as Deadlands, Weird Wars, or Necessary Evil), nor on licensed properties published by Pinnacle (such as Lankhmar, Flash Gordon, or Rifts®). The licensee is responsible for complying with the intellectual property laws of any other entity.
- The licensee may not charge or accept compensation for the product in any form.
- Pinnacle Entertainment Group reserves the right to revoke or modify any aspect of this license at its discretion.
Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild (SWAG)
Within the Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild (commonly called SWAG), you can find—and create—new and original content by individuals across all genres and from around the world for the Savage Worlds roleplaying game. If you feel something is missing or have an idea you want to publish, SWAG provides a platform to do so.
Creators may make and sell their own Savage Worlds creations to the public on supported platforms without going through Pinnacle’s standard official licensing program. The official licensing program continues with approved partners and licensees, while SWAG is intended primarily to give new creators a way to sell their work.
Key characteristics of the Savage Worlds Adventurer’s Guild include:
- Creators retain the rights to their published products. Savage Worlds is not an open license, and Pinnacle Entertainment Group does not assume ownership of creator content.
- Creators receive 60% of gross sales, after OneBookShelf hosting fees and Pinnacle Entertainment Group’s 10% share.
- Creators may publish homebrew content for the Savage Worlds rules system, but may not use Pinnacle-owned or licensed settings such as Deadlands, Rifts® for Savage Worlds, The Goon™, Fear Agent™, or similar properties.

Media Network License
If you’d like to create media materials or content for public use such as actual play streams and podcasts, interviews and discussions about our game or settings (or blogs and other forms of expression), you can use the “Savage Worlds Media Network” logo. There is no cost to this, and you don’t need to submit anything for approval.
Media Network members may email PEGlicensing@gmail.com to join an exclusive Discord server and Google Group for networking and to gain access to giveaways from Pinnacle.
In using Savage Worlds for media materials or content, you agree to the following terms and conditions:
This agreement grants to the licensee the non-exclusive, non-assignable license to reference the Savage Worlds rule system and related settings, including for streaming video services (including Twitch, YouTube, third party websites, applications, and other video platforms), in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.
Licensees may not require payments, surveys, downloads, subscriptions, or email registration to access the Media Content, may not sell or license the Media Content to any third parties, and the Media Content must be free for others to view, access, share, and use without approval, credit, or compensation.
Media Content may generate income via sponsorships, ad revenue, and donations as long as such methods do not block or interfere with free public access.
The licensee agrees to use, unaltered in size or dimension, the “Savage Worlds Media Network” logo in the opening credits and any associated web page or interface, where applicable. (A media friendly PNG of the logo can be downloaded here)
The licensee agrees to place the following notice in a legible format in the end credits, and where possible, upon any dedicated web pages or interfaces:
“This game references the Savage Worlds game system, available from Pinnacle Entertainment Group at www.peginc.com. It is unofficial Media Content permitted under the Media Network Content Agreement. This content is not managed, approved, or endorsed by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. Certain portions of the materials used are the intellectual property of Pinnacle, and all rights are reserved. Savage Worlds, all related settings, and unique characters, locations, and characters, logos and trademarks are copyrights of Pinnacle Entertainment Group.”
Licensee indemnifies Licensor and holds them harmless against all loss, damage, injury, and expense, including reasonable attorney’s fees resulting from the production or creation of its Media Content.
Pinnacle Entertainment Group reserves all rights to its Intellectual Properties, including those used as examples or illustrations in the Savage Worlds and related settings books, promotional material, or published works. The user of the license agrees to be responsible for obeying the laws regarding the Intellectual Property of any other entity.
Pinnacle Entertainment Group reserves the right to revoke or alter any aspect of this license, per licensee or Media Content, as it deems necessary.
Aces
If you want to sell your work, you must apply by email to Licensing@peginc.com. Once your company is granted a license, you may create and sell products without submitting them for further approval, provided you follow the guidelines below.
Pinnacle Entertainment Group evaluates production quality as much as content. This includes art, trade dress, and professional layout. An introductory email should include a link to sample material demonstrating layout and art, any new Edges, Hindrances, or Setting Rules, and a few sample characters.
This copy of the license is for display only. Approved licensees will sign and file an official agreement with the same terms.

- If either party employs attorneys to enforce this agreement, the prevailing party may recover reasonable attorney’s fees. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Arizona, with exclusive jurisdiction in Maricopa County, Arizona.
- Pinnacle Entertainment Group reserves the right to revoke or modify this license at its discretion.
Before Applying to Be an Ace: Initial Guidance
Most first-time applicants ask similar questions. The following guidance outlines what Pinnacle Entertainment Group expects to see with an application email.
Setting Overview
Provide a brief description of your setting. Do not include extensive lore. The purpose is to identify potential conflicts with existing settings or material that is excessively graphic or unsuitable.
Sample Rules Text
Include examples such as new Edges, Hindrances, or Setting Rules. This demonstrates your understanding of the system, writing clarity, and ability to self-edit.
Production Quality
Applicants should expect to invest some money at this stage. Pinnacle expects professional-level presentation.
- Art: If established artists are not affordable, emerging artists may be used. The goal is representative quality, not final art.
- Layout and Trade Dress: Layout should be done in InDesign. Only a few sample pages are required.
Conversions from Other Systems
Conversions should focus on tone and play experience, not mechanical one-to-one translations. Savage Worlds emphasizes speed, clarity, and flexibility. Rules that do not support this approach should be reworked.
The review process varies depending on the submission and the applicant’s plans, but these steps apply to nearly all cases. Questions may be directed to Licensing@peginc.com.
Design Note
Designing streamlined rules is more difficult than it appears. Simple-looking systems often require extensive testing and iteration. Savage Worlds rules, including Edges and Hindrances, are designed to function across a wide range of scenarios with minimal complexity.
